About the Band

Kampfire Kowboys are at it again!!
March, 2000 brought the release of their second CD entitled Stand Still, recorded and mastered at Star Trax Studio in Crestwood, Illinois, and engineered by Jeff Luif. This new CD is more and more rockin' western style music that puts Kampfire Kowboys in a league of their own. Producer & song writer Tom Colton (with a lot of help from bassist Dave Piper, lead guitarist Brian Tedeschi and drummer Keith Daproza), spun out 13 new original tracks for Stand Still, mixing his rock & western-folk machine upside down and inside out. Check out "Westbound N' 49" or "Destiny Rides" both foot stompin-rockin tunes. Songs such as "Fire in the Hole" and "Tangerine" evoke long gone romantic western images. "Weathervane" demonstrates Colton's strong acoustic guitar ability.

Kampfire Kowboys are:
Lead Vocalist/Songwriter/Guitarist - Tom Colton
Lead Guitar - Brian Tedeschi
Bass - Dave Piper
Drums - Keith Daproza

Kampfire Kowboys debut CD, somewhere blue, received rave reviews with great songs that are radio ready and Stand Still is expected to do the same. The Kane County Chronicle says: "Round up your friends and go see Kampfire Kowboys, you'd be krazy not to!" The Pioneer Press says: "Kampfire Kowboys kick career into high gear. Its energetic upbeat country and folk influenced rock n' roll makes Kampfire Kowboys the best new band in the area. Period!!" The Daily Herald says: "Give it a whirl." This is truly authentic American music.

Back in 1997, an idea was conceived to produce a band that would define Rock n’ Roll in a more unique way. Incorporating country & folk guitar styles, mixed with pop-oriented melodies, Kampfire Kowboys had found their sound. This rock and roll western group has the ability to lift you off your feet and sing along to melodies like "Arizona Emily" or  "Broken Feather". Others songs such as "Waygone Daddy!", a roaring rock instrumental ho-down, will keep you slapping your knee and howling for more!

If you like the alternative country & western sounds of artists like Robbie Fulks, Jon Langford, Wilco, Whiskeytown or the Jayhawks, then you will love the Kampfire Kowboys.
The Kowboys are a great band to see live. They put on a superb show that really rocks. Their excellent new CD of original music, "somewhere blue," has been getting rave reviews and contains a lot of great, catchy songs that sound "radio ready" thanks to the top-notch production and engineering by Jeff Murphy, of Shoes fame.
The Kampfire Kowboys really don't sound like any of the previously mentioned alt. country bands. They have their own unique sound, which they aptly describe as "Rock Western Style." Once you hear their CD and see them live, you'll probably agree with that description. Or, as the Kane County Chronicle put it, "You can't put a label on the Kampfire Kowboys. Just when you think you know what to call this band, it throws something into the mix...plenty of raw energy."
Their original music deftly blends elements of hybird forms of music like: country-rock, rockabilly, folk-rock, western ballads, Tex-Mex, classic rock, bluegrass and more. Yet the Kowboys manage to avoid the musical cliches of each of these genres and create original music with a signature sound that is all their own. The Kowboys also cover a wide range of artists such as the BoDeans, John Fogarty, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley, Brian Setzer, The Byrds, Los Lobos and more.
